The other day I purchased a sewing machine for a lady in Congo and it felt great!
Why would I do such a thing?
Year after year I send the usual flowers from my mom's favorite flower shop in North Vancouver. She always comments on the man that delivers them to her with a big smile on his face. In a way it feels good to be able to be apart of the smile between two people and to fill my mom's home with the smell of lily's and other flowers.
My mom aka my best friend for life!
BUT with all that is going on in the world today....there are other women who need "us". That said, rather than purchase flowers the idea was to gift her gift to a woman in need.
**Choose a symbolic gift in her honor that helps women survivors of war. Each gift represents items they use to help train women participants enrolled in the program.
I have always been a fan of the Women For Women International group based in Washington. I also hosted a few fund raisers at the salon and have adopted a few gals here and there. It's pretty awesome to be able to give a lady the opportunity to learn a skill so she can then take care of her family. The situation in CONGO is no joke! Women are typically victims of war and rape and abandoned by their husbands. When I stop and think how blessed we are to have this life and how so many others are without simple "things", it saddens me.
The BEST idea for Mother's Day is to give a gift to a female in Congo from your mom.
